GUIDES, WHIPPING & DIPPING
Guides now need to be wrapped onto the rod blank. First they need to be dressed. Dressing makes the guides feet rounded and flat so that the silk creates a seamless transition from guide foot to blank. The guides once wrapped are given several coats of vanish to fill in gaps in the thread. Once the guides are wrapped and varnished, the whole rod is dipped in marine yacht varnish, 2 or 3 coats.
The reel seat is added and glued into place. The rod is then left to dry and cure, and once dry any imperfections polished out. The rod is finally finished and ready to fish. |
