GLUING
The strips are then arranged into the correct order and glued together. The glue is spread with an old toothbrush to make sure each flat is fully covered with glue, then they are then bound by hand together, rolled to make sure they are straight and left to dry overnight.
After that the glue and string are sanded off to reveal the finished blank. The rod is then lightly sanded with fine 0000 wire wool.
FERRULES
The ferrules are then fitted to the rod. The male ferrule is oversized and has to be lapped to make it fit. The end of the cane is then turned down to fit the ferrule. The ferrules are then glued into place securely.
HANDLE
The handle is made from cork rings which are glued together. They are turned down on a lathe and formed into the shape of grip required.
